Description
The Department of Transport (DoT), Maritime, have received State funding for the refurbishment of as much of the historic Carnarvon One Mile Jetty (OMJ) as possible.
The OMJ is listed on the State Heritage Register (Heritage Place No. 4566 & 467). This means that any repairs, including replacing missing or deteriorated items must be like-for-like materials, that does not involve the removal of, or damage to, the significant fabric of the structure (without prior approval of Heritage Council of Western Australia, Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage).
The OMJ is primarily a jarrah structure, reflective of the age of the asset. In view of its heritage listing, jarrah timber is being sought for the repair works. Green structural timber planks in accordance with Australian Standard 2082-1979 can be supplied at stress grade F8-F14, however it is the Department’s preference is for the highest grade that can be supplied at a best value for money outcome.
