Renewal of Unsealed Roads Program Stage 6 - Supply of Material

Project Brief

The Department of Planning, Transport & Infrastructure, in conjunction with Kangaroo Island Council seek tenders for the provision of pavement material, to specification, to be used for the upgrading of roads in the Renewal of Unsealed Roads Program, Stage 6.

The 2016/2017 project will target the upgrade of the following road:
1. Bark Hut Road-

Stage 6 is seeking tenders for two (2) options for Bark Hut Road being

Option 1 – all limestone
Option 2 – limestone and ironstone blend

Option 1
Approximately 97,000 tonne of crushed limestone is required and it is proposed that the material will be produced in the following 2 locations.

• 48,500t Huxtable’s Pit (Located at 1262 Springs Road)
• 48,500t Bowden’s Pit (Located at 5090 North Coast Road)

Option 2
Approximately 48,500 tonne of crushed limestone and 48,500 tonne of ironstone is required and it is proposed that the material be sourced and produced in the following 2 locations

• 48,500t Huxtable’s Pit (Located at 1262 Springs Road) – crushed limestone
• 48,500t Pratts’s Pit (Located at 685 Pratts Road) - ironstone

Kangaroo Island Council staff has undertaken material sourcing for the project and there is reference to material Borrow Pit sites approved for use in the contract. Borrow pit sites used in this contract are approved for use under the K.I. Council’s authority in accordance with the Local Government Act.

Some preliminary testing & grading analysis has been undertaken and those results are included in this document for information and general guidance.
