Request for Appointment to a Panel of Pre-Qualified Contractors to Provide Services for the Removal and Disposal of Wrecked Vessels throughout Western Australia

The Department of Transport (DoT) is responsible for the removal and disposal of wrecked and abandoned vessels in all state coastal waters, inland waterways and DoT boat harbours within Western Australia.

DoT has a requirement for the removal of vessels that constitute, or are likely to constitute, a hazard or obstruction to other vessels navigating those waters surrounding the wrecked vessel.

Once a vessel has been declared to be a wreck and upon removal, those vessels are generally required to be placed in temporary storage (while a disposal order is sought from a magistrate, which may take up to twelve months), prior to disposal.

DoT’s current panel contract is due to expire at the close of business, 25 November 2023. Therefore, DoT is seeking to form a new panel of qualified salvage ‘contractors’ that have the resources, equipment, personnel and appropriate skills and experience to safely and cost effectively remove and dispose of (where required) identified wrecked vessels. This new panel will replace the existing panel contract.
