Broadband Telecommunication Services - Connecting Salisbury

Connecting is a project to provide broadband telecommunications services throughout the local government area. The services offered will include a greater variety than currently offered and will also be available in areas where services are not currently available.

The City of has developed the Connecting Salisbury project to ensure that businesses in the City enjoy the benefits of broadband telecommunications services. These benefits include reducing costs and being able to market and sell products and services to customers locally and globally. Broadband services are essential to competing in international markets. The additional variety and coverage of broadband services will also be available to the entire community in .

The City of ’s application to the State Government’s Broadband Development Fund for assistance with telecommunications was successful in gaining funding for the Connecting Salisbury project. The application includes contributions to the project by the City of and the selected licensed telecommunications carriers (Telcos) and/or Internet Service Providers (ISPs) taking the total value of the project to over $1 million in the first year.

The project includes data networking requirements of the City of to connect various locations within the local government area to the City’s computing services and to the Internet.

The Minister for Science and Information Economy and the City of will execute a deed for the grant monies. This deed requires the selection of a Telco/ISP by a competitive tender, which is this Request for Proposal. The successful tenderer or tenderers will enter into a contract with the City of .
