Description

DENR is part of the Sustainability, Environment and Conservation portfolio and reports to the Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation. It delivers the Government’s environment policies and is responsible for nature conservation, heritage conservation and animal welfare. DENR manages a large part of the State’s public land, which includes national parks, marine parks, botanic gardens and coastline.

Established in 1992, Bounceback is a broadscale ecological restoration project operating across a range of landholdings, including national park reserves, privately managed sanctuaries and pastoral properties in the Gawler, Flinders, and Olary Ranges. The protection and recovery of the Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby is a major focus of Bounceback, with the project area encompassing most of the species natural range in South Australia. Management of herbivore grazing pressure on native vegetation, through control of introduced goats and rabbits, and some native kangaroo species, is also a key component of Bounceback.

DENR requires the provision of services to fulfil requirements for the protection of conservation assets (vegetation communities and significant flora and fauna species) in the Bounceback operational area of Gawler Ranges National Park and other reserves in the area, as required, including:
- Feral goat control, including satellite tracking of collared animals;
- Targeted control of Western Grey Kangaroos (according to State policy); and
- Assistance with fox, rabbit and cat control, as required.

Additionally, depending on available funding:
- Assistance with Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby (YFRW) population monitoring, including observation and radio tracking and free feeding traps, across the YFRW range in the Gawler Ranges; and
- Malleefowl monitoring: locating breeding mounds and recording attributes.
