Dam 8 Civil Works - Mount Morgan Mine site

Technical Services, a business unit of the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, invites you to submit an offer in response to this tender.

The department manages the public health and safety risks associated with numerous Abandoned Mines throughout the state, including the Mount Morgan Mine site. The Mount Morgan Mine site is situated adjacent to the Dee River and the township of Mount Morgan some 38 kilometres south-west of Rockhampton.

The Mount Morgan Mine Open Cut Pit (OCP) contains water accumulated over a large number of years which is typically low in pH with concentrations of heavy metals and dissolved solids. Technical Services is seeking to limit the volume of contaminated water which may accumulate within the OCP in the future by diverting the Dam 8 catchment and reducing clean water inflows. Dam 8 is situated immediately to the north of the OCP and accounts for 80% of the contributing clean water catchment to the OCP.

We are seeking to engage a suitably experienced civil works contractor to construct an impermeable seal on the upstream face of Dam 8. The upstream seal will consist of a synthetic membrane covering the face of the dam and connecting to the foundation to ensure an impermeable seal. The installation of the membrane will require the upstream batter of the dam to be flattened and layers of clean fill and protective geotextile to be placed below and above the liner to ensure longevity of the membrane and protect against damage from bushfire.
