Fabrication and delivery of Jacking Frames for Barcoo River Bridge Rehabilitation Project

The Barcoo River Bridge Rehabilitation project is located on the Landsborough Highway between Blackall and Tambo in Western Queensland, and is the major arterial link between the Flinders Highway and Capricorn Highway. This section of highway receives heavy tourism traffic, as well as freight and heavy transport vehicles, and services the many sheep and cattle properties in the surrounding area.

The aim of the rehabilitation works was to restore the level of the deck wearing surface at piers 2, 3 and 5 to original design height by using a two-stage process. The first stage was the stabilisation of the geotechnical foundations at piers 2 and 5. This involved underpinning the structure at these locations by constructing eight bored concrete piles on each of the two problematic piers and a significant extension to the pilecap. This stage was completed on the 14th November 2011 in order for the bridge to be trafficked during the wet season.

Stage 2 involves the jacking of the bridge deck to its original height at piers 2, 3 and 5. To permanently restore the structure to its original height and provide stability, steel shims will then be installed between the existing headstock and the bridge deck. Stage 2 is likely to commence in August 2012 and the bridge should be rehabilitated before the next wet season in 2012.

This procurement exercise requires the fabrication and delivery of one, or possibly two, Jacking Frames for an upcoming project located on the Landsborough Highway south of Blackall QLD.
