The Stokely Over Canning Rail Bridge (PTA Ellipse Equipment Refer: A018.057/SC/RAB) at Gosnells is a rail crossing bridge over Canning River located on the Armadale Rail Line at 18.057km chainage. This bridge, constructed in 1987, has a superstructure consisting of 5 simply supported spans comprising four main steel I-girders with a total length of 91.5m. The total width of the existing bridge is 8.8m overall. No edge protection is provided along the existing bridge. However, there are five refuges attached to the Down Main side of the bridge, and five refuges are attached to the Up Main side of the bridge for emergency situations. The refuges are planned to be replaced by the walkway on both side of the bridge. In 2017, PTA engaged a consultant to develop the design of the steel walkway on both sides of the existing bridge to replace the existing refuges. The load capacity of the rail bridge has been assessed, and the superstructure of the bridge has been rated with a minimum of 110% of 200LA with proposed walkway dead loads. In 2021 and 2022, PTA engaged a consultant to load rate all the rail bridges along the Armadale line, including this rail bridge. The assessment included the considerations of the PTA-registered rail vehicles on the networks, including 200LA rail design load, rollingstock, EMU and track machines. The strengthening work of the existing pier has been identified and is currently under design development. Currently, there is no historical record available about the existing protective coating work of the bridge.
