Description
The Whyalla City Council is calling tenders for the Construction of a Roundabout at the intersection of Cartledge Avenue and Jenkins Avenue plus the Duplication of Jenkins Avenue, Whyalla Jenkins.
Ocean Eyre development stages 10 and 11, in progress at the south-western end of the residential estate, involve the north-westerly extension of Cartledge Avenue as a collector road serving the two new precincts. A roundabout has been determined as a logical traffic management treatment for the 4 way intersection of Cartledge and Jenkins Avenues.
Residents will be aware that Jenkins Avenue from the northeast is a four-lane divided carriageway road with central median, but currently merges into a dual lane single carriageway road approaching the intersection. It continues as a single carriageway road southwest towards Lincoln Highway. The transition to the merged roadway has been an unsatisfactory arrangement for safe and convenient traffic flow and vehicular access to existing properties on this section of Jenkins Avenue.
