Description

International Policy Division within Defence (IP DIV) is responsible for arranging maritime studies programs for regional navies, coast guards and government departments/ministries. IP DIV has facilitated MSSP study programs, among others, for regional Southeast Asian partners since 1999. These study programs are some of the few formal training courses in international and maritime law available to certain Southeast Asian partners. Successful delivery of maritime training courses, provided by the Commonwealth in collaboration with an Accredited Academic Services Provider will support a common understanding of international maritime law and furthers the relationship between Australian and our regional partners, especially between our navies in education and training.

Maritime training programs covered by this procurement will typically engage mid-ranking officers and public servants with the aim of cultivating a common understanding of international maritime settings, law and operations. Programs of work delivered under this arrangement are likely to consist of lectures, essays, presentations, exam components and syndicate discussions over one or two weeks, depending on the partner institution. Courses should be interactive, contemporary (taking into consideration recent developments in maritime issues), and facilitate understanding for participants for whom English is a second language.
