Description
1. The High Availability Internet Gateway Service (HAIGS) will replace the existing Defence Internet Gateway (DIG) with a high throughput, secure, robust, and highly available connection between the Defence Information Environment (DIE), and the internet and External Parties (business partners, other Government departments, and the general public). The key entities in the DIE using the DIG are users on the Defence Restricted Network (DRN) who use DIG services primarily to conduct email messaging with internet-based addressees and internet web browsing. In addition to email and web access, the DIG supports Defence Extranets through which Defence shares information and services with External Parties.
2. The HAIGS Capability can be viewed as a managed gateway service (the HAIGS) which enforces Defence security and administrative policies and practices on a number of Defence Services operating through the HAIGS.
