About the Project Owner

A proudly Australian company, Santos is a leading supplier of natural gas, a fuel for the future providing cleaner energy to improve the lives of people in Australia and Asia. Santos is already Australia's biggest domestic gas supplier and aims to be a leading Asia-Pacific LNG supplier.

For over 65 years, Santos has been working in partnership with local communities, providing jobs and business opportunities, and safely and sustainably developing Australia's natural gas resources.

Santos aims to create positive long-term impacts in the communities where we live and work by providing local employment, training, education and enterprise opportunities. Sharing the positive economic and social benefits of natural gas is critical to ensuring a sustainable future for both Santos and the community.

Keeping Santos' supply chain local is important to the economic, environmental, social and operational sustainability of Santos' projects. Hiring and procuring locally is important to Santos because it encourages:

  • A reliable, local supply chain that can be flexible and resilient in times of uncertainty
  • Long-term socio-economic benefits for smaller regional communities
  • Upskilling and educational opportunities
  • Local suppliers to source from other local companies.

The Project

The Darwin LNG plant (DLNG) is a single train liquefaction and storage facility located at Wickham Point on Darwin Harbour, Northern Territory, Australia. DLNG currently receives gas from the Bayu-Undan field in the Timor Sea and converts it into LNG. DLNG was commissioned in 2006 and has a design life of 2027. Bayu-Undan produced its first gas in 2004 and is now approaching the end of its field life.

Barossa is an offshore gas and light condensate project 300 kilometres north of Darwin. Once the supply from Bayu-Undan has been exhausted, it will provide a new source of gas to the DLNG facility.

The DLNG Life Extension Project (the Project) seeks to utilise the shutdown window created by Bayu-Undan end of life to prepare the DLNG facility for backfill from the Barossa field, by undertaking several brownfield work packages.

Procurement Approach

Santos intends to undertake a self-execute approach and act as the procurement entity for the Project. Santos will engage the market to secure the goods and/or services required with an emphasis on engaging businesses local to the Northern Territory where technically and commercially feasible.

As the project's contracting strategy develops, this portal may share more information about upcoming tenders and procurement activities.

Where Santos awards a major contract, the contact details of appointed contractors will also be shared via this portal to facilitate connections with local businesses or job seekers.
