WA Department of Transport
Assessment of the Requirement for a Breakwater for a New Land Backed Port in Cockburn Sound for the Westport Project
Details
Description
The Westport Taskforce was established in September 2017 with the purpose of developing a plan to manage the growing freight demands of Perth and surrounding regions for the next 50 years and beyond. Following a two-stage multi criteria assessment process, the Taskforce recommended two options to the State Government. Adoption of the Westport Taskforce’s recommendations was announced in August 2020 and the project has now progressed to Stages 2b and 3.
The purpose of this Consultancy is to advise the Westport Project on the potential requirement for a breakwater so that subsequent project components can be scoped and budgeted. The future port design components of Westport’s Stage 3 will provide detailed design of the port and any associated breakwater and enable optimisation of these designs to ensure good levels of port operability and management of environmental impacts.
