Description

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is seeking the services of a suitably qualified contractor to carry out the remediation works required to the Warwick Station Footbridge. The Warwick Station footbridge is a cable-stayed structure that spans over the southbound Mitchell Freeway, connecting the bus exchange, Warwick rail station, and passenger carpark. The footbridge consists of a continuous two-span steel girder bridge, with a main span of 32.5 meters and a secondary span of 16.25 meters, totalling 48.75 meters in length. The central pier's steel column rises to a height of approximately 16 meters. The structure is situated above the southbound Mitchell Freeway at the 14.5 km mark of the Joondalup Line. The two-span cable-stayed footbridge is stabilized by rock anchorage on the east abutment, which connects to the pier's steel pile and the east span via cable stays, counterbalancing the west (main) span. The bridge's articulation is fixed at the pier, with the deck ends seated on guided bearings that allow for free longitudinal movement. In 2022, BG&E discovered that the steel beam bearings on the western support were improperly installed, leading to displacement, and recommended their replacement along with repairs to the cracked precast concrete support beam. In 2023, Jacobs (design consultant) was contracted to design and carry out the necessary repairs, confirming the previous findings during a structural site inspection. A comprehensive remediation work plan has been developed to replace the heavily cracked precast concrete support beam, the bearings supporting the footbridge, and to perform minor concrete repairs on the adjacent beams. As part of the remediation works design process, the design consultant has developed a high-level construction staging plan outlining how the work should be executed according to the design intent. Please refer to Book 4 Scope of Works and Specification for more information.
