Description

Defence’s vision is to deliver a modern, secure, sustainable and scalable information environment to enable current and future military and business operations.

The contribution ICT makes to Defence is becoming increasingly critical — ICT offsets the relatively small size of the ADF and enables a war fighting advantage.

In partnership with the Services (Navy, Air Force and Army), Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG) is introducing new capabilities and new ways of working. This transformation will take us from an infrastructure-centric approach to ICT, to a more agile information-centric approach where change is delivered at high velocity.

CIOG must position itself as a business partner, providing a military advantage to the Services through the delivery of upstream activities such as: integration, convergence, service management, information protection, cyber resilience, strategic relationship management and process optimisation.

Through this transformation, Defence will deliver a reliable and secure warfighting and business network in order to provide access to the required information at the right time and place to enable the mission.

Central to this strategy is the Network Convergence Directive for deployed networks. The term “Network Convergence” typically refers to the provision of multiple services via a single network. However, in the context of Defence, where it is operationally prudent, convergence should extend to include design and architecture, hardware and software, support arrangements and delivery mechanisms.
