2011 Census Collector Satchels

The sixteenth national Census of Population and Housing will be held in August 2011 and an essential segment of the Census is the production of Collector Satchels.
The satchel is a purpose designed and constructed bag used by Census field staff to deliver and collect material from every household in their designated area. There will be one Satchel for each Collector.
The Census collects information relating to each person and household in the country. The statistics collected are used to provide information about the Australian community as a whole and groups within the community.
For the 2011 Census, the ABS will require a large volume of mainly printed materials (approximately 1,800 tonnes) as well as the satchels. Material and satchels will be packed at the Central Packing Centre (CPC) which is located in Canberra. From there the items will be transported to the State Despatch Centre (SDC), then to Area Supervisors (ASs) Australia wide, and following that the ASs will then distribute to all their Collectors.
