Median Strategy - Tree Planting for 2014/2015

As part of the Whyalla City Council's Greening Whyalla Program, Whyalla is undergoing a transformation within its median strips. The old tired trees and associated landscaping are being replaced with new species and lawn to add a vibrancy previously not seen in our city.

Following on from the success of last year’s median strategy planting, Council is keen to keep this momentum going with a new program of planting for the 2014/15 financial year.

Council would like to safely install all its specified trees for the 2014/15 financial year ‘Median Strategy’ into their specific locations, to maintain the momentum of Council’s current tree planting program. This will include planting specified trees in Council’s median strips until the specified locations are planted to the required density, before the start of summer, allowing the trees to adapt to their new environment before the heat of January.

Trees must be planted as directed, with any damage to the sub-surface irrigation system, or any other underground infrastructure, repaired at the cost of the installer, immediately.

The tender includes provision of labour, materials, plant and services to carry out the operations necessary for the proper performance of landscape works. All works shall be carried out by an approved landscape contractor and shall include but not be limited to minor earthworks, cultivation/shaping, topsoil, mulching, tree supply, planting and maintenance.

Work must be carried out within Council’s WHS guidelines to ensure the safety of the contractor and the public.
