Description
In July 2003 Council engaged consultants to undertake a phase 1 environmental site assessment (ESA) and goundwater investigation at the former tannery waste disposal site located at Cameron Road, Mount Barker.
Council is now seeking to consider what future options there are for the site and in particular the potential for the site to be developed for residential purposes. As part of the process, and in consideration of potential public/private partnerships, a thorough assessment of the soil contamination is required. Council has recenetly engaged a contaminated land auditor to ensure that past and future works are in accordance with the relevant guidelines. Any change of land use on the site will require the authorisation of the approved site auditor and the subsequent approvals required to be received should a redevelopment proceed pursuant to the Develoment Act and other associated legislation.
