Description

The new Pharmacy sterile manufacturing facility currently under construction at KEMH requires stainless steel pass through hatches and stainless steel benches to be manufactured and installed. This installation will allow Women’s and Newborn Health Service Pharmacists the ability to manufacture sterile drugs and preparations for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This translates to not having to rely on wholesalers or third party manufacturers to supply some of the preparations, which cannot be provided in a timely or cost effective manner. These pass through hatches or airlocks are essential for the functioning of the sterile room as they separate the cleanest part of the facility with the preparation area. These areas where the pass through hatches and benchtops are to be installed are pressurised and airtight and this ensures the preparations are done in a highly sterile environment thus ensuring that intravenous drugs and intravenous nutrition are prepared effectively for the states sickest and most premature infants.
