Description

Fremantle Prison is a World Heritage Listed site managed by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH). As a major tourist attraction, Fremantle Prison offers a variety of experiences for visitors including guided tours of the site covering the main cell block and other buildings. Tours currently on offer include: ‘Convict Prison’, ‘Behind Bars’, ‘True Crime’ and ‘Torchlight Tour’.

These tours are delivered in English and audio guides in different languages are available to ensure the experience is accessible to a variety of visitors. There is no wi-fi available on site, therefore devices are required.

DPLH is seeking a rental agreement for the hire of up to 75 handheld audio guide devices complete with battery and rechargeable racks.

Approximately 85 stories in English will be prepared by DPLH and provided to the Contractor for use on the tours. This is roughly three (3) hours of narration.

The scope of this Request includes:

  • Translation of English script into French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin and Auslan. Depending on cost, optional additional languages may include Indonesian, Italian, Malay, and Spanish;
  • Recording of audio content in English (for visitors who are hard of hearing), French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin. Depending on cost, optional additional recoding of languages may include Indonesian, Italian, Malay, and Spanish;
  • Recording of Auslan video content;
  • Installation of audio and video content on the audio guide devices;
  • Delivery of up to 75 handheld audio guide devices to Fremantle Prison;
  • Installation of 70 – 85 markers/location beacons along Fremantle Prison tour routes;
  • Training provided to Fremantle Prison staff in the use of the devices; and
  • Quarterly inspection and maintenance of the devices and tour route markers.

Fremantle Prison is recognised on the World Heritage List, the National Heritage List and Western Australia’s State Register of Heritage Places and any activities undertaken at the site must have regard to and be in accordance with heritage management requirements.

The ongoing conservation and interpretation of Fremantle Prison’s State, National and World Heritage values are governed by the statutory requirements of Western Australia’s Heritage Act 2018, the Federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 as well as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 1972 World Heritage Convention.
