Description
The Department has responsibility for the following 3 programs:
• the Community Service Obligation Funding Pool arrangements, the purpose of which is to ensure that arrangements are in place to provide all Australians with ongoing, timely access, through community pharmacies, to Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme medicines and under which the CSO Distributors supply PBS Medicines. Under the CSO arrangements, eligible entities, known as CSO Distributors, receive payments for the supply of PBS Medicines to Community Pharmacies.
• the National Diabetes Services Scheme under which, amongst other things, CSO distributors are required to provide distribution services in relation to NDSS Products; and
• the Chemotherapy Compounding Payment Scheme, including the payment of amounts to TGA licensed Compounders of Infusions.
The Administration Agency will undertake a number of functions in relation to the three programs, which include, the monitoring of the performance of pharmaceutical distributors with regard to their obligations under the CSO Distributor Deed, and CSO Operational Guidelines, and providing compounding payment services.
