Description

Myambat Explosive Ordnance (EO) Depot, NSW.

Located 150km west of Newcastle, and 10km from Denman, Myambat is the primary national wholesale storage EO Depot and has the largest storage capacity in the network. The storage capacity at Myambat was significantly enhanced in the early 1990s with the construction of 34 earth covered buildings. Building on this relatively recent investment, additional storage capacity is now required at Myambat to meet future demands, and accommodate other changes within the network. The EOLRP proposes to deliver:

(i) a small, garage type structure adjacent building for the storage of materials handling;

(ii) seven new 23m earth covered buildings for the bulk storage of EO;

(iii) a new light frangible building for the bulk storage of small arms munitions;

(iv) a new gatehouse at the entry of the explosives storage; and

(v) roads, landscaping and engineering services to support the above works.

Mangalore EO Depot, VIC.

Located 12km north of Seymour in central Victoria, the Mangalore EO Depot sits between the Hume Freeway and the Goulbourn Valley Freeway. Mangalore’s primary role is to support the nearby Puckapunyal range which is the largest consumer of EO in the network. Mangalore also supports regional dependencies across Victoria and provides staff to the Point Wilson Explosives Area for EO importation activities.

To enable Mangalore to effectively operate as a regional wholesale EO Depot, the proposed EOLRP works include construction of new facilities to increase the storage capacity at the EO Depot and replace existing facilities, including the site administration facility, which are now at the end of their economic and useful life and are no longer fit for purpose. The proposed works at Mangalore include delivery of:

(i) a new site administration facility;

(ii) two new 23m earth covered buildings for the bulk storage of EO;

(iii) a new light frangible building for the bulk storage of small arms munitions;

(iv) a new hardstand for container handling and storage;

(v) reconstruction of the internal ring road around the depot; and

(vi) roads, landscaping and engineering services to support the above works.

EO Depot Cerberus, HMAS Cerberus VIC.

HMAS Cerberus is located at Crib Point, approximately 30 kilometres from the City of Frankston and approximately 80km south of Melbourne. The EO Depot Cerberus’ primary role is to support the on-base training dependencies, including the Westhead Gunnery Range. EO Depot Cerberus also distributes EO to Flinders and provides support to Avalon, Dutson Range, RAAF Base East Sale, Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Point Wilson and RAAF Williams. To enable EO Depot Cerberus to continue to effectively support its regional dependencies, the EOLRP proposes to deliver:

(i) a new site administration facility;

(ii) one new 23m earth covered buildings for the bulk storage of EO;

(iii) a new ammunition process building;

(iv) a new storage facility for non-explosive stores;

(v) roads, landscaping and engineering services to support the above works.

EO Depot Twofold Bay, Eden NSW.

The Navy Ammunitioning Facility at Twofold Bay is located near Eden on the New South Wales south coast. Twofold Bay’s role is to support the ammunitioning and de-ammunitioning of Navy vessels. The EO Depot at Twofold Bay provides the capacity to ‘top-up’ vessels with ammunition expended during exercises as well as the complete de-ammunitioning of vessels prior to them entering a maintenance period. To enable EO Depot Twofold Bay to continue to effectively support its Royal Australian Navy dependencies, the EOLRP proposes to deliver:

(i) two new 23m earth covered buildings for the bulk storage of EO; and

(ii) roads, landscaping and engineering services to support the above works.

EO Depot Williamtown, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Williamtown NSW.

RAAF Base Williamtown is located about 30km north of the Newcastle CBD, about 15 kilometres east of Raymond Terrace and about 30km west of Nelson Bay. The role of EO Depot Williamtown is primarily to support the on base and wider Newcastle dependencies. To enable EO Depot Williamtown to continue to effectively support its customer dependencies, the EOLRP proposes to deliver:

(i) two new 13m earth covered buildings for the bulk storage of EO; and

(ii) roads, landscaping and engineering services to support the above works.

Point Wilson Explosives Area, VIC.

Point Wilson Explosives Area (PWEA) is a 326Ha site located on the northern shore of the Geelong arm of Port Phillip Bay, 60km from Melbourne. Following remediation of the waterside infrastructure, the PWEA will be the primary point of importation of EO. To improve the efficiency of these land-side container handling operations, the EOLRP proposes to deliver:

(i) a new site administration facility; and

(ii) a new covered hardstand and container inspection stand.

EO Depot Fort Direction, Fort Direction TAS.

Fort Direction is located approximately 46km southeast of Hobart, Tasmania on the south arm Peninsula. Fort Direction is the only EO Depot in Tasmania and is managed by Thales under the EO Services Contract. EO Depot Fort Direction is a retail storage depot primarily distributing EO to Buckland Range, Dowsing Point, Pontville Range and Stony Head. EO Depot Fort Direction also supports Devonport, Domain, Hobart, Launceston and Youngtown. EO stores are replenished by air, departing RAAF Base Williamtown and drawing from the primary national wholesale EO Depot at Myambat.

To enable EO Depot Fort Direction to continue to effectively support its customer dependencies, the EOLRP proposes to deliver:

(i) a new site administration facility; and

(ii) roads, landscaping and engineering services to support the above works.
