Department of Education / Lakeside School - Commonwealth Funded Works - ACM remediation and LED upgrade - SINSW-24-24756

In order to provide enhanced, inclusive and future-focused learning spaces at Lakeside School, we are seeking funding support for the upgrade of our learning spaces as well as the removal of asbestos and led paint in our classrooms. Lakeside School is a School for Specific Purposes that caters for the holistic needs of students with intellectual and physical disability, mental health conditions as well as Autism, and we desire to upgrade our learning spaces. Lakeside moved into an already aging public school premises in 2013 at the time additional bathrooms were added to include wheelchair and mobility access but no other upgrades to the buildings. We have 8 classes and 8 learning spaces. With the special needs nature of our students who on occasions have heightened behaviours have previously damaged walls containing asbestos; with the library the other only learning space to transition students to, when damage to a classroom occurs it causes major disruptions to other classes across the school and students who are unable to have their routines changed without notice transition to now areas. Inclusion is paramount to all aspects of learning and student wellbeing at Lakeside, to make our classrooms more inclusive, we require the removal of existent asbestos. This will enable us to mount new interactive whiteboards that will provide academic and sensory support for our students, as well as redesigning our spaces so the acoustics, improved LED lighting and layout are more supportive of student needs and different learning styles. All aspects of teaching and learning at Lakeside is underpinned by students being in the zone for learning and engaging in lessons that support sensory regulation. By upgrading our school spaces, we will be creating a more inclusive and future focused environment for our special needs, our large cohort of Aboriginal students, as well as the staff and school community.
