Young People's experience with using health services in WA a review of the evidence and consultation with young people

The Commissioner for Children and Young People is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced provider to undertake a literature reveiw and work collaboratively with CCYP to facilitate consultations with young people; report on the findings of the consultations and literature review with the intention to guide development of policies and strategies for youth health services in Western Australia and to inform service providers about the health needs of young people.

To effectively advocate for young people it is important to include their voice in intitiatives developed for them. The project outcomes are:

• conduct of a literature review to document examples of previous youth health consultations and research on best practice youth health and youth health service delivery using credible sources of information from Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Canada; and
• consult with young people from diverse backgrounds in Western Australian and to produce a report based on the findings of the consultations. The consultation will be on youth health and focus specifically on the young people's experience of accessing health services in Western Australia; their views on what the health system currently does well for them; and where service delivery can be improved.

The literature review and consultation will inform the Commissioner's advocacy on youth health issues and the publication of key documents that promote the views of young people on health services targeted at young people and the required strategies for improving youth health services across the West Australian Community.
