The Public Transport Authority’s (PTA) safety and health policy is committed to ensuring that all operations and business activities involving employees are carried out, so far as is practicable, safely and without risk to health. There are approximately 1480 PTA full-time employees.
As part of this policy, the PTA has in place a corporate procedure for the provision of safety glasses to prevent eye injury. This procedure applies to all areas of the Public Transport Authority where employees are required to work where there is a risk of eye injury.
The PTA will provide one (1) pair of clear prescription safety glasses and one (1) pair of tinted prescription safety glasses or one (1) pair of prescription safety glasses with transition lenses, if recommended by an optometrist, over a two year period. All prescription safety glasses shall be issued with protective side shields and conform to AS/NZS 1336:1997 or any other standard which, in PTA’s view, supersedes or replaces this standard.
