WA Department of Fisheries
Implementation of Community Engagement Strategy for the Management of Shark Hazards in Western Australia
Details
Description
There has been an unprecedented number of fatal shark incidents in Western Australian waters over the past 18 months, resulting in a high level of community concern with robust debate ranging from calls to cull white sharks and equally vociferous calls to protect this species. Many beach users are reportedly considering the way they enjoy the ocean, with some reports of a change in behaviour and increased caution when in the marine environment.
The Department of Fisheries has established a Shark Response Unit to develop and implement a range of measures to assist in managing and mitigating the risks and perceptions of risk associated with shark hazards in Western Australia.
The Department of Fisheries (Fisheries) is looking for a qualified and experienced consultant group to assist in the development and implementation of a Community Engagement Strategy for the management of shark hazards in Western Australia.
