Wulkuraka Trailhead Construction

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is the state-agency responsible for the management and development of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT), which is a recreational trail open to walkers, bike riders and horse riders that utilises the closed rail corridor between Wulkuraka, near Ipswich, and Yarraman.

TMR is seeking a contractor to construct a new start/end-of-trip facility, known as a trailhead, for users of the BVRT on closed rail corridor land at 163-165 Grace Street, Wulkuraka, to function as the southern terminus for the trail. This facility is proposed to connect into the existing concrete pathway to the north, which forms part of the BVRT.

TMR has prepared landscape design drawings detailing construction works for the trailhead, which is designed to fit within the surrounding landscape and minimise disturbance of existing vegetation where possible. The majority of the site is currently undeveloped so some tree/vegetation clearing works will be required to facilitate construction.

The trailhead will provide a number of key facilities including:

• off-road carparking for cars and 4WDs accommodating 36 vehicles including provision for two (2) Persons with Disability (PWD) parking spaces
• a bus layover facility off Grace Street to facilitate the safe loading/unloading of bikes/equipment
• provision for a toilet
• shade / shelters with picnic table/bench seats
• overflow area for events which could be used for future expansion of carpark.

All works are documented in the Wulkuraka Trailhead - Detailed Landscape Package (Volume 2). The project is to be delivered under a Minor Infrastructure Contract-Construct Only.
