Description

As a growing regional location, Gympie and the surrounds are poorly served by publicly accessible multipurpose indoor recreation venues. Council wishes to assess the need to provide additional facilities over the next 5-10 years.

Preliminary consideration has been given to the provision of a large indoor arena suitable for equestrian and other activities at the Gympie Showgrounds as well as a more conventional multipurpose indoor facility, primarily suitable for a range of indoor sports, and adaptable for events, exhibitions etc. No preferred site has been identified for the multipurpose facility.

The purpose of the study is to identify

  • the current and future need for an indoor equestrian centre in Gympie
  • the current and future need for an indoor multipurpose sports facility for the region
  • preferred locations for the facilities
  • draft concept for the facilities
