Description
Gunns Plains Cave lies under picturesque farmland and bushland at Gunns Plains, approximately 20 kilometres out of Ulverstone. The Parks and Wildlife Service seeks Expression of Interest from interested parties to develop and operate a tourist caving operation in the cave. The cave consists of a series of beautiful caverns and short passages. The cave is particularly famed for its magnificant cave shawl and flowstone formations, an underground stream and glow worms. The cave itself is 1.3 kilometres long with a developed public access section of around 500 metres. It contains concrete walkways and steps, galvanised steel railings and a 240 volt lighting network. The site also includes a ticket office, toilet block, car park and picnic shelter. Currently the cave is temporarily being operated by the Parks and Wildlife Service, pending the selection of a commercial operator. The style of cave operation is not specifed and may involve: Traditional guided show cave operation; Self guided tours; Soft adventure Something new again; or A combination of experiences There is also the potential to develop above-ground attractions relating to karst interpretation such as self guided walks.
