SA Department for Water
Lake Albert Spoil Treatment Project Emergency Dredging Services, Narrung
Details
Description
This project main objectives are to remove and relocate the existing spoil (approximately 30-35,000m3) in the narrows of Lake Alexandrina and Lake Albert to mitigate the ASS environmental potential and potential future navigation hazard. The spoil is associated with a previous emergency dredging project completed in June 2009. The spoil heap varies in size from 10 to 25 metres in width and 300 to 500mm thick by 900 metres in length. Dredging depth will be nominated by the contractor as it depends on the size of the equipment being used.
The removal of the spoil is necessary to address:·
- EPA concerns the exposed acid sulphate soil (ASS - spoil) will create more risks to the environment,
- DTEI concerns that the spoil material is a future navigation hazard to vessels.
