Description

In 2012 the Western Australian Government committed to the construction of a new 60,000 seat capacity stadium on the Burswood Peninsula and an associated $298 million program of transport infrastructure improvements to meet the transport requirements of the new stadium.

The new stadium and the associated transport infrastructure will be completed in time for the commencement of the 2018 Australian Football League season.

Relevant key features of the transport solution include:

  • The provision of a new railway station at Belmont Park (Stadium Station) with three island platforms offering six platform faces, together with stowage for up to 117 railcars
  • Additional stowage between Great Eastern Highway and Victoria Park Station for an additional 24 railcars

The current PTA standard equipment for train detection is single rail AC immune DC track circuits and double rail UM71 jointless track circuits. The existing track circuits in the Works areas are single rail AC immune DC track circuits. The preference is to limit the number of insulated rail joints.

The sidings will only be used to park trains during special events at the nearby stadium and as a consequence PTA has chosen axle counters for train detection on this Project. At present PTA has no axle counters on their network.

The Scope of Works to be delivered under this contract is for the supply, support, manufacture, fabrication and factory testing of an axle counter system for the Belmont Park and Victoria Park stations.

Included is the design of the axle counter system for Victoria Park and Belmont Park and support for installation, site testing and commissioning on the whole of the Project.

As “Axle Counters” have not been used by PTA previously they will be required to undergo a “Type Approval” process and have suitable procedures developed.
