SA Attorney General's Department
Electoral Commission of SA - Counting Machines for Ballot Papers
Details
Description
The Electoral Commission SA (ECSA) conducts the parliamentary elections and Local Government periodic elections every 4 years, with the next elections scheduled for March 2022. This activity engages with over 1.2 million South Australians and culminates in counting their ballot papers. ECSA also conducts supplementary council elections and industrial ballots and polls from time to time. Counting machines are used to facilitate counting of ballot papers. These machines must be very accurate and reliable over a number of election cycles. In addition, ECSA supplements its fleet of counting machines with units borrowed from other electoral commissions. In return, ECSA loans part of its fleet of counting machines to other electoral commissions during their major electoral events. As a result, counting machines must be suitable for use in a number of jurisdictions. ECSA requires 20 suitable counting machines to be delivered on or before 30 June 2020.
