Description
The Public Transport Authority (PTA) Radio Systems Replacement project for Perth's urban rail network in Western Australia is a large-scale initiative to upgrade the existing analogue radio communications system to a modern digital one, enhancing safety, efficiency, and future network expansion. PTA have installed radio towers on Main Roads Western Australia’s (MRWA) Lane Use Management System (LUMS) gantries as part of their Radio Systems Replacement (RSR) project along the Mitchell Freeway from Reid Hwy to Vincent Street, and Kwinana Freeway from Mill Point Road to Canning Highway. These towers require fibre connectivity back to the PTA Network. Main Roads and PTA have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in place to facilitate asset sharing where agreeable by Manager Electrical Asset Management (MEAM) for Main Roads and Communications Engineering Manager for PTA. The intent is to utilise this MoU to facilitate PTA sharing Main Roads’ Fibre. MRWA is allowing PTA to use Tube 8 of their Fibre Network as part of the MoU to reduce the cost of connecting these radio towers. The gantries which have antennas installed will have PTA cabinets constructed nearby with fibre running from the PTA cabinet to the nearest Main Roads ITS Cabinet. Using existing fibre connections between the MRWA ITS Cabinets, the PTA fibre connection will be routed to splice pits and use tube 8 of the Main Roads Backbone to connect to diverse connection points. There are existing PTA/MRWA connection points at: Claisebrook Relay Room / MRWA TOC; andMandurah Train Depot / Mandurah Roundabout. As part of these works there will be a future interface at: Whitfords Station Communications Room / MRWA Kingsley Cabin. There are six radio towers along the Mitchell Freeway from Reid Hwy to Vincent Street and two radio towers along Kwinana Freeway from Mill Point Road to Canning Highway. These radio towers need to be connected into the PTA network via MRWA Resilient Ethernet Protocol (REP) loops and are to follow MRWAs TCS requirements. The PTA requires a suitably qualified contractor to provide Fibre installation, splicing and patching services within MRWA and PTA (non-rail reserve) land according to the Issued for Construction (IFC) designs.
