WA Public Transport Authority
Provision of Bridge Infrastructure Cathodic Protection Services for the Public Transport Authority
Details
Description
The Public Transport Authority (PTA) requires the services of a Contractor to provide the installation of an Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system for the protection of the pile caps on piers for the Fremantle Rail Bridge.
Recent surveys and observations of the pile caps which form part of the Fremantle Rail Bridge have identified areas of concrete delaminating and/or spalling due to underlying steel reinforcement bar corrosion. Result of chloride analysis across samples of these locations confirmed that levels exceeded those thought to indicate steel reinforcement bar corrosion. Further Corromap testing confirmed a high probability of active corrosion to the underlying steel reinforcement. As a result of these findings, there is a requirement for concrete remediation and cathodic protection systems at these locations to assist in maintaining the condition of the pile caps for a further 40 years’ service life provision.
