Description

Berth 6 at the Geraldton Port is a multi-user berth that is used for bulk liquid fuels, fertiliser imports, mineral exports and break bulk imports.

To manage fire and explosion risks associated with the current fuel import, the Berth Operator (Shell and/or BP) presently have their own risk assessment and interim fire response arrangements in place pending further fire fighting infrastructure. The import vessel utilises an international shore connection that is connected to GPA non-pump boosted berth hydrants. A significant part of the berth operator’s method of operation includes reliance on local DEFS to provide fire fighting capability.

GPA recognises that existing fixed fire fighting equipment does not meet some industry standards for certain dangerous goods cargoes. To address this GPA has established a Dangerous Goods Berth Fire Safety Solution Project.
