Aboriginal Cultural Burning Monitoring and Evaluation - P24-6664

LLS is investigating ways to develop an internal policy to better coordinate the agency’s cultural burning practices as part of land management. At present, cultural burning is inconsistently used by the 11 regions and there is clear need to understand both the limitations and areas of success from the various approaches undertaken by each region. Initial feedback from the project discovery stage has indicated funding is a large contributing factor impacting each regions ability to effectively engage cultural burning practices. To develop an evidence based policy that delivers effective and consistent cultural burns, further detail is needed to understand what level of funding is needed as well as greater insight into which cultural fire model being could be best adapted to a statewide scale.
