Development of a new Maria Island National Park and Ile Des Phoques Nature Reserve Management Plan and Maria Island National Park Darlington Site Plan

A suitably qualified and experienced consultant is sought for the development of a new statutory management plan for Maria Island National Park and Ile Des Phoques Nature Reserve, and a new site plan for the World Heritage listed Darlington Probation Station World Heritage Site.

Maria Island National Park sits at the southern end of Tasmania’s east coast about 12 kilometres directly east of the coast of Tasmania. Maria Island is a national park of state, national and global significance for its outstanding natural and cultural values.

Since the current management plan was approved in 1998, Darlington Probation Station was included as one of eleven sites that make up the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage serial listing.

Ile Des Phoques Nature Reserve located approximately 18.5 kilometres to the north north-east of Maria Island, is a 7.4 hectare granite outcrop at the opening to Great Oyster Bay. The island was reserved to protect a small Australian fur seal colony and seabird nesting sites. The submarine sea caves are considered of outstanding significance in Tasmania.
