Online Visitor Portal to Promote Western Australian Regional Collections

Regional museums and other collecting organisations are custodians for much of Western Australia’s heritage and associated stories. These collections have an important role to play in engaging local communities and tourists with regional history, arts and culture.

To ensure the viability of regional collections and achieve greater visibility, the collections and host organisations need to be more effectively promoted for tourism purposes and as community development resources. It is proposed that this will be achieved by establishing an online visitor portal to promote knowledge of and access to these collections, and for this to be integrated with appropriate tourism information.

The portal will be integrated with a searchable online collection catalogue for regional collections, which is also in development at the Western Australian Museum.
