Provision of a Computerised Chemical Safety Management System

The Department is a complex, scientific and technical, multicultural organisation with an extensive support structure. The Department's business is conducted through one metropolitan and five regional administrative regions with offices/research stations and other facilities located state-wide. There are a total of 26 main sites. The total number of staff is approximately 1300.
The Department uses a range of agricultural chemicals in its research based grain and livestock work, as well as for biosecurity based projects. A significant number of laboratory chemicals are used in various testing environments throughout the Department.
The Department has had an existing computer based chemical safety management system which has been customised for the Department’s chemicals and organisational structure. There are currently 6511 individual chemical products all with Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and approximately 7117 stock holding entries recorded in the current system. Each site is audited annually by an appointed internal local chemical auditor who is given restricted access to update and modify online the chemicals within their stock holdings. Chemical auditors (currently 86) are appointed by an OSH Advisor who also administers the chemical management system.
The Department is seeking the provision, maintenance of a computer based chemical safety management system that will meet current, and be updated to meet future, legislative requirements related to safety management of chemicals, hazardous substances and dangerous goods.
