Description
Both Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) are adult tertiary teaching hospitals in Western Australia. The Pharmacy Departments located at RPH and SCGH provide services to wards and departments and to a variety of external health providers and institutions. Pharmacy services include general and specialist clinical pharmacy, sterile and chemotherapy preparations services, clinical trials and investigational drugs, medicines information, procurement, storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals and inpatient, discharge and outpatient dispensing.
SCGH has an aseptic Cytotoxic reconstitution service to the oncology department which is the largest in WA.SCGH is also the neurosurgical centre for WA together with many other specialities. Clinical Trials including Phase I trials are carried out at SCGH and the Pharmacy Department has direct involvement in almost all trials conducted on this site. The Outpatients Pharmacy at SCGH is attended by 35,000 patients each year and discharge prescriptions are prepared for in excess of 21,000 patients annually. With increasing patient loads, it is necessary to maximise storage of medications and reduce the floor space taken up with traditional shelving
