Description
Specifications and Scope of Works details the requirements and conditions for the construction of the College Avenue demonstration wetland, Busselton.
The Department of Water, Geographe Catchment Council and the City of Busselton are working in partnership to implement best practice Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) in the vicinity of the Busselton Light Industrial Area (LIA) and adjacent urban areas. As part of this partnership it has been identified that there is an opportunity to upgrade the deteriorated drainage system between College Avenue and the LIA.
The College Avenue drain comprises a series of small detention basins that receive stormwater runoff from a highly urbanised catchment of approx 38.4 ha. It is proposed that the site will be rehabilitated as a demonstration wetland.
Implementation of best practice WSUD in the area will result in the transformation of a hard engineering approach to stormwater to a bioengineering approach that will enhance water quality before it discharges to the New River Wetlands. Additionally, improving biodiversity values, aesthetics and public amenities may encourage a broader community use of the area with great potential for recreational and educational outcomes.
