Description

This is for the supply of two (2) 68Ge/68Ga Generators used for the production of the radioisotope Gallium-68 (68Ga), the starting material used for making the radiopharmaceutical 68Ga-Octreotate (OCT) and 68Ga-PSMA-11. RAPID routinely produces both radiopharmaceuticals for the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

The requested two (2) 68Ge/68Ga Generators will provide increased reliability and uninterrupted supply of 68Ga-OCT and 68Ga-PSMA radiopharmaceuticals. A single generator is limited in the amount of radioactivity obtained at any given time since the mother radionuclide decays over time, producing less 68Ga. It is common practice to use or ‘elute’ two generators simultaneously (an old one and a newer one) to increase the starting activity in order to produce enough radiopharmaceuticals to cover a minimum of 2-3 patients per synthesis. Generator based radiolabelling is limited by the maximum activity obtained per elution and the wait time required for the generator to recover between each elution.
