Provision of HF radio communications network and services

AMSA is responsible for civil maritime and aviation search and rescue within the Australian search and rescue region.AMSA is the NAVAREA X Coordinator responsible for issuing navigational warnings to shipping on the high seas and in coastal waters areas around Australia.These services are provided in accordance with Australia's obligations under SOLAS and applicable conventions of the IHO.The services required comprise:

• 24 x 7 Australia-wide monitoring of HF radiotelephone distress, urgency and safety communication to a minimum 200 nautical miles, including a test call service;
• 24 x 7 monitoring of HF digital selective calling (DSC) distress, urgency and safety communication within the Australian search and rescue region, including a test call service;
• Broadcast of navigational warnings to NAVAREA X and AUSCOAST;
• Broadcast of Sea Safety Messages (SSM); and
• Exchange of information to and from Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Australia.

The BOM, as the national meteorological service provider of Australia, is responsible for issuing and disseminating meteorological forecasts and warnings to shipping on the high seas and in coastal waters areas around Australia.These services are provided in accordance with Australia's obligations under SOLAS and applicable conventions of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).The services required comprise:

• Broadcast (voice) of marine weather warnings, forecasts and observations; and
• Broadcast (radiofax images) of marine weather forecast and analysis maps.
