NATURAL SCIENCE BUILDING UPGRADE – KINTORE AVENUE ADELAIDE

Registrations of interest are invited from Department for Administrative and Information Services (DAIS) Prequalified General Building Contractors in Category 2. The works described below will be tendered as a lump sum contract. The Natural Science Building accommodates the Museum##s Division of Natural Science. The building contains collections of immense scientific importance and cultural significance. The works proposed will be carried out between January and June 2002 and will be contained to the basement and ground floor areas of the building. The building will remain occupied by staff of the SA Museum during the contract period and the safety of staff and the collections is of utmost importance. Construction consists of alterations and additions to the existing Natural Science Building and adjoining courtyard only. The proposed works include (but are not exclusively limited to) the construction of a predominantly structural steel and glass addition to the existing southern façade, demolition of a concrete slab to connect the ground and basement with a new staircase, internal structural steel framework, civil works, decommissioning and demolition, relocation of compactus units and storage cupboards and office fitout to the ground floor. The engineering services include data / communications, power, modifications to lighting, security, fire protection, hydraulics and mechanical. The estimated total project cost is $2.35M. Registrations shall be assessed on the project specific responses received to the following criteria:  evidence of ability to work in and interface with an occupied and operational environment (include at least one reference);  evidence of ability to work in an environment storing and maintaining precious objects (include at least one reference);  evidence of ability to provide successful site management in a unique environment (include at least one reference);  evidence of ability to successfully undertake defects rectification in a timely manner (include at least one reference);  proposed key personnel to undertake the works;  details of similar projects valued between $2M and $3M undertaken within the past five years with nominated referees. A short list will be determined from the Registration of Interest responses received. Registrations of Interest should be forwarded in writing, marked General Building Contractor Registration, addressed to the Risk Manager, Natural Science Building Upgrade. No registration will necessarily be accepted.
