Description

Towards effective genetic and sustainable management of Ascochyta blight of chickpea. This investment will support Australian chickpea growers manage AB by providing Australian chickpea breeding programs with the resources to improve AB resistance in newly developed varieties through: (i) effective and comprehensive surveillance, monitoring and pathotyping of AB pathgen (ii) identification of novel AB resistance (iii) improvement of AB resistance screening methodologies that are accurate, reliable, economical, fast and suited for the evaluation of large numbers of plants; (iv) development of molecular tools that support accurate deployment of both major and minor AB resistance genes. Additionally, this investment will support the development and provision of AB management options to support growers effectively deploy resistant varieties; (v) Develop integrated disease management strategies that can be deployed to effectively manage AB across all regions

The tender consists of five interrelated procurements. The applicant may apply for one or any combination of the procurements listed:

PROC-9176110: Program 1: Towards effective genetic and sustainable management of Ascochyta blight of chickpea - Ascochyta blight pathogen biology, population dynamics and epidemiology.

PROC-9176139: Program 2: Towards effective genetic and sustainable management of Ascochyta blight of chickpea - Coordination, development and deployment of international AB pathogen/host differential sets

PROC-9176140: Program 3: Towards effective genetic and sustainable management of Ascochyta blight of chickpea - Identification and characterisation of novel sources of AB resistance in elite cultivars and wild relatives of chickpea

PROC-9176141: Program 4: Towards effective genetic and sustainable management of Ascochyta blight of chickpea - Accurate, effective, cheaper and rapid high-throughput method for qualitative and quantitative evaluation for AB genetic resistance

PROC-9176142: Program 5: Towards effective genetic and sustainable management of Ascochyta blight of chickpea - Development of integrated disease management package for Ascochyta blight in chickpeas.
