Description

The Tasmanian Government invites Expressions of Interest from persons interested in undertaking the operation and enhancement of visitor facilities within the Low Head Light Station and the Low Head Pilot Station. Low Head is approximately 50 kilometres north of Launceston and only 5 kilometres from George Town. The Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts offers this prime coastal heritage site that provides a variety of business opportunitities in one of Tasmania's most significant tourism clusters, covering the popular Tamar Valley Wine Route and the State's second largest city, Launceston, a major tourism gateway. The two stations are on separate parcels of land and are 1 kilometre apart. It is envisaged they would be operated as 1 entity. Both of these stations currently offer accommodation with a cafe/kiosk operating within the Pilot Station precinct. There is ample opportunity to further enhance these and other activities at both of these locations. One such opportunity is the Low Head Light Station. One of the few working lighthouses in the State, this could be further developed to incorporate lighthouse tours. The closing date for Expressions of Interest is 8 August 2008.
