Gold Coast Seaway Sand Bypass Pipeline Upgrade
Details
Description
The Sand Bypass System is located at the Gold Coast Seaway on the southern side of the south training wall. The Sand Bypass System transfers littoral drift sand from the south side of the seaway entrance to the beach on South Stradbroke Island. The discharge pipeline for the system traverses the seaway and was originally buried in the seabed at approximately -10.00 m LA T. Due to greater than anticipated erosion of the seabed between the rock walls, the pipeline has been gradually exposed as the depth of water has increased to between -8.00 m LAT and -14.00 m LAT. Pipeline support piles and brackets were installed in 1989 from the south side of the seaway for approximately 240 m. With further erosion of the seabed in recent times the remaining section of the discharge pipeline on the northern side of the seaway is now exposed and requires piling support.
Seeking qualified contractor to supply, fabricate and install the new piles and support brackets, including raising and lowering the pipeline to a safer design profile.
The major items included in the Works are as follows:
1. Fabricate 14 new pipe bracket support clamps including fixings and anodes.
2. Remove existing support brackets or chains on the seaway pipeline and reinstate pipeline to new design levels.
3. Install 3 new support piles at the South Stradbroke Island reach of the pipeline.
4. Install 14 new pipe bracket support clamps to pipeline at new design levels.
