Description
The Service will be funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and will be provided to persons transferred to a Regional Processing Country for the purpose of undergoing a Refugee Status Determination. The intended objectives of the Service are:
a. to ensure that transferees understand the definition of a refugee pursuant to the 1951 Refugee Convention (the Convention) and its relevance to the Refugee Status Determination process of the Regional Processing Country;
b. to ensure where applicable that Transferees are assisted to make their claims for protection pursuant to the Convention and other relevant human rights conventions as relevant to the law of the Regional Processing Country; and
c. to ensure, if necessary, that Transferees are provided with assistance in preparing an application for a merits review in the case where they have received a negative Refugee Status Determination
