Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources
Total R Value Equivalence for Residential Building Fabric
Details
Description
The department is looking to procure services to develop Total R-Value equivalents for the National Construction Code part 13.2 Building Fabric provisions for Floors, Walls, and Roofs.
The output will provide an additional pathway for builders who currently face higher compliance costs in certain cases, especially when undertaking a renovation.
Objective:
- To develop potential deemed-to-satisfy (DTS) elementals pathways for scenarios where there is a gap in the current version.
- To simplify the DTS elementals requirements for thermal constructions while maintaining stringency at the same level as the existing Performance Requirement.
- To develop and document a test framework to develop the R-Values that can potentially be applied for future code updates which may address future climate or heat stress and demand issues.
Outputs
The output would be a public document that could be referenced in performance solutions between 2025 and 2028 and included in 2028 as a DTS provision.
Timing
All work required to be peer reviewed and completed by June 2025.
