Description

The Kewdale Freight Terminal (KFT) was developed in late 1968 and is currently used as an intermodal terminal to receive and dispatch both rail and road freight. Redevelopment of the KFT is subject to a planning condition stipulating that soil and groundwater must be investigated to assess the suitability of the site for the proposed development. Significant investigation has already taken place at the KFT, and a portion has been remediated and reclassified as ‘contaminated for restricted use’. The site of the proposed investigation comprises the remaining portion of the KFT.
A Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) has been created for the site, in consultation with an accredited Contaminated Sites Auditor. The SAP details soil, sediment and groundwater testing which is required to be undertaken in order to complete the detailed investigation of the site.
The PTA requires a comprehensive description of the contamination status of the site to allow it to determine what, if any, remediation and management is required on the site in order to protect human health and environmental values.
